Last Christmas – Bumper Edition

Hello friends!

So here is the final post that tells the story of Jennifer and Sam. It has been a thrill to write as well as challenging but it has brought forth ideas for next year and ways to liven up the post with a format – more on this to follow.

As it is the final post, I have decided to include a bumper edition! So two sixty word stories for you this morning as we bid farewell. I would just like to say thank you for reading and also commenting as well. It means a lot to hear feedback.

So for the final time this year, the story of Jennifer and Sam.

Last Christmas

Red and gold tinsel was placed around the tree. Baubles of different sizes hung off the branches. Ornaments collected over the years joined them. An angel topped the tree, hands held out in prayer, looking over mother and daughter. “Daddy would have liked this.” Jennifer held back a sob and thought of their last Christmas together. “Yes he would have.”

 The table next to the seat that Sam had spent many a time, reading Christmas stories to Elsie, eating mince pies and drinking hot chocolate, held a photograph of Sam, Jennifer and Elsie posing with a snowman. It was their last Christmas picture as a family. Every year, Jennifer and Elsie would light a candle. Sam would never be forgotten.

  2. You do know I’m at work right now, right? Mustn’t cry at work! It’ll ruin my reputation!
    That was beautiful, sad, and so full of emotion and a perfect reminder after the last ones how quickly life can be over, even if you do live to be a hundred. It’ll never feel long enough when you leave a loving family behind.
    Gawd, I need a hug!

    1. Thank you for the comments! I wasn’t too sure how to end it at the beginning of the week but when I moved closer there was a few to play with! I must admit, thinking back I was a little worried about this one. Your comments are so true with it will never feel long enough.

        I think this was the perfect way to end it. No matter how long you live life is short, so I think skipping ahead right after their wedding like you did was the perfect thing to do.

  3. Yep! You did it! You broke my heart… What an emotional punch. But so beautiful. Both of them. I have loved following these two characters through their firsts, I was not ready for their last. Thank you for sharing this. I can’t wait for the stories that come next 🙂

  4. This was a perfect ending to these stories…even if I did cause me to reapply my mascara 😉 There’s so much I’d like to say but am truly at a loss for words…so I’ll say excellent job and leave it at that.
