Eleonora – A Short Story Review

Good morning to all. I hope that you are all well.

Following on from my Writing Corner yesterday with Candice, she was ever so kind to suggest a short read for me. I have enjoyed the writing of Edgar Allan Poe that I have read and as it was favourite of Candice, I opted for Eleonora. And oh boy, am I glad.

I managed to read this is in a short time, as the words flowed so well, the prose was beautiful and it was so vivid.

The detail that Poe goes into is amazing, and transported to me the place and surroundings the two main characters are based.

It tells the tale of a man and his beautiful love, Eleonora, together and in beautiful surroundings. There are highs and lows, with promises and choices, that kept me on the edge of my seat. Literally.

I have the full collection of stories on my kindle app aswell as book form by Edgar Allan Poe, and highly recommend. I give this short story…

That’s right. 5 Pandas. Top marks.

Hope you enjoyed this short review.

Writing Corner with Candice

Good morning/afternoon/evening to those all around the world. I hope all is well and everyone is getting into the Holiday Season.

I am currently on holiday/vacationing but that hasn’t stopped me from continuing on with my blog and hopefully giving some entertainment to the fine folks that read this blog.

Today I have the pleasure of having the wonderful, lovely and funny Candice on my Writing Corner. We have been following each other for some time on Twitter, tweeting here and there, back and forth, and she makes me laugh and also is a great tweeter.

Candice was able to spare some time and drop by the blog to answer some questions. So, buckle in and hopefully enjoy the read.

Writing Corner with Candice

Bio: I am a girl in my twenties but my mental capability will never exceed 18 nor shall my birthday celebrations. I was born in Cape Town, South Africa. I now live in England ( yes I chose snow over sun) and I have lived here for nearly nine years. I live for gaming, good movies and great food and I feel I was born for greater things, I try to tell my bank account this on a daily basis. Blogging is new for me but I feel it is something I could be good at and the most important thing, is that so far, it is something I am enjoying immensely. I don’t do this whole lovey dovey stuff in life, I am raw and to the point, what you see is what you get and a lot of people blame that on me being South African, but honestly I think it’s just me.

Hello Candice. Thank you for joining me on my blog. How are you?

At the moment I am fantastic and very excited to be able to do this with you.

Are you looking forward to Christmas? Do you have many plans?

This is the dreaded question that everyone is asking, my natural instinct is to please everyone and reply with how excited I am for Christmas and the festivities that come with it, but to be completely honest I have got to say that I am just not feeling it this year. Normally the bright lights and smell of cinnamon in the air would be seducing me by now, but alas, nothing seems to be revving up my Christmas cheer. It’s ok though, I have decided that every Christmas needs a grinch and I will happily fill the role this year. Unfortunately for my family I am supposed to be doing all the cooking and entertaining. pizza anyone?
*If pizza is on the cards, I am inviting myself over.

I would like to talk to you about your blog. I must add that I love the content that you produce. It is varied, detailed and always from the heart. Could you tell me what people should expect from your blog?

Firstly thank you so much for reading my blog and for your lovely compliments.

It is very hard for me to preempt what will happen with my blog and where I might see it going, but the one thing I can say is that I pride myself in my honesty and that is how I intend to write about anything I choose to write about, completely raw and honest.

Do you have a set blogging pattern? Do you plan posts in advance or do you write them as they appear in your mind, and then post them?

I intend to publish at least one entry a day, but as we all know saying things and doing things are completely different and to be completely honest I sometimes have the attention span of a goldfish. However, at the same time that quality about me might be one of the reasons that I will have a very diverse blog.

When it comes to planning what I am going write about I have the same success as I would if I were trying to avoid eating cake, which I can tell you is not very successful. I pretty much just sit down at the end of each day and just let the keys take me to a place that my mind might like to wander.
When is your favourite part of the day to write? Do you have a best spot?

I like to come home from work, eat my dinner and then make a strong cup of coffee before I decide to go on a literary adventure, so evening time is always best for me as I find that I have had all day to let my mind burn through a million thoughts on life. I don’t particularly have a favourite spot to write in but I can tell you that no writing will ever get done unless I am in my pjs.

Do you have a plan for your blog in the future?

I started my blog more as an online thought diary for myself but when I received a like and a follower after my first post, my ego, like all of us grew a little bit larger and I suddenly realised that there might actually be other people in this universe that would be interested in what I have to say. So to answer your question, I would like to see my blog be semi successful and hopefully bring many years of entertainment and stimulation to everyone who reads it.

What has been your inspiration for blogging?

Ok, now this question scared me a little. Most people would have some deep answer to this question such as “writing frees my soul so I had to pursue it!” Or “I was born to write and without it I am incomplete”, the honest answer for me how however is a dirty little secret of mine, that as a tom boy I am a little embarrassed to admit. No beating around the bush, I am just going to say it….. Sex and the city! There, my secret is out. I couldn’t help but be completely inspired by the character Carrie Bradshaw. I knew I didn’t want to blog about sex, but the idea of sitting in my own time and space and writing about something I feel strongly about really appealed to me.

You also into gaming and if I am right, a PlayStation girl. What are your favourite games?

Well firstly dear Sir, is there even any other console other than playstation? Just kidding….. a little bit of health banter for those xbone, I mean Xbox fans. Yes I am a gaming girl and I am super proud of it! As far as favourite games go, that’s a hard question. The last two years of my life have been consumed by Destiny, the love of my life, followed up by the recent Battlefield 1 which is amazing to say the least. I do play other games from time to time but I find that from a social aspect I definitely enjoy online gaming more than PVE and I always seem to drift back to the drug called Destiny.

Do you play often?

Much more than I care to admit….

You also love animals, what pets do you have?

A few months ago I lost my cat Maizy, I rescued her off the street, she was in a terrible state when we found her but my baby had a wonderful four years with us until that ugly C word popped up and we had to let her go. On a happier note, I realised my crazy love for kitty’s could not be ignored and we adopted a beautiful little nutcase of a kitten named Lunar. Boy she is allot of work but I still love her through all the torn up door frames and early morning feed me calls.

Where can we find Candice on the internet?

I can be found on my blog website:

In five words, tell us why we must check out your blog?

I would have to say life without love, because then you would never get hurt.

Thank you all for reading.

Starship AX-101 – A short story

Good morning.

Hope you are all well.

I am currently in America on holiday but when inspiration strikes I like to make the most of it. I’m not much of a sleeper and wrote this short story at 3 in the morning. It is something a little different but hope you all like it just the same.

Please let me know how you found it, all feedback is worth having, but please be nice.

Have a great day all.

Starship AX-101

“Engines four and five are now out. One and two are leaking power, three is working but giving off no immediate power and six to eight are still out.”

Control panels were emitting noises that Captain Daniel had never witnessed in his short lived tenure at the helm of church cockpit. He had been Captain for almost five minutes when things descended into chaos. His first question to himself was what would have the deceased Captain Nomak done.

Captain Daniel flicked his hair from his brow with his hand and gazed towards the former Captain’s corpse in the corner of the room. The man rested undignified against the wall, blood protruding from the bullet wound in his head and eyes wide open but gazed over.

“How is the fuel looking, Jace?” The Captain asked, his skin riddled with goosebumps.

“We have fifty percent fuel left. But to give you a better understanding, Captain,” Jace said spinning inher chair and locking eyes with Captain Daniel, teary and drained. “In the first thirty hours of the journey we used twenty five percent of the fuel capacity, racking up millions of atmos miles. In the last fifteen minutes, travelling only around several thousand miles, we used the same. It is depleting fast.”

Captain Daniel sighed and let his head fall onto his chest. He wasn’t built for this. There was no rightful passage he had taken to be their leader. He didn’t ask for this. And in the seven thousand year history of the Starship AX-101, Captain Trest Daniels would be the young man to bring it all to an end. In five minutes.

Red and blue flights lit up the room from all parts of the main dashboard, buzzing sounded throughout the shuttle and the pressure was too great. Captain Daniel looked to his right at the Vice-Captain’s chair and felt remorse. Kinder Jose sat motionless, arms flung over the sides with blood dripping from her mouth, gunshot wounds spread over her body, with sanguineous patches staining her pure white uniform.

“Will we make our destination?” Captain Daniel asked.

“No. All engines are either failing or are out-“

“I found a substitute location which we could risk,” Navigator Fraser Locke shouted with excitement, cutting off Jace and spinning completely in his chair and gaining control of his panel once more. “It is an unknown planet that appears to have life form, an over-massed one at that.”

“Can we guarantee one hundred percent survival rate?”

Jace typed with fury at her control panel. “Never, but it is our best shot.”

Captain Daniels felt a rush of adrenaline, mixed with fear and hope. He may have been only seventeen, but there was a part to play and he needed to portray it to perfection.

“Okay folks,” Captain Daniels said as he walked over to the navigation panel and peered over the shoulder of Fraser Locke, and for the first time confidence filling his body. We’re heading to a planet called Earth. Settle in tight, it will be an adventure.”

Podcast Recommendation

I’ve always had a thought that one day, I would have my very own podcast. I wish to make that dream a reality one day. Set up some recording equipment, talk to the mic alone or with some friends, about writing, films, books or just having a laugh and a jolly good time.

In the mean time, I have this blog that racks up some dust now and again, a writing career I want to get off the ground and help raise the awareness of many other writers and creators out there who needs to be read or seen.

Podcasts have been part of my life for the last few years and wanted to share with you the ones that I highly recommend.

1/ Writing excuses – a good podcast with tips and stories from writers for writers.

2/ The Nerdist – with famous guests from around the world and different professions, a must listen to show.

3/ Jay and Silent Bob get old – a fun podcast where Jason Mewes talks about his journey with sobriety with his friend Kevin Smith.

4/ Desert Island Discs – Great tales of people that are shipwrecked and who choose the music they would like to be stranded with.

5/ Hollywood Babble-On – Last but not least, my favourite podcast of all time, with Kevin Smith and the amazing Ralph Garman. Friends who talk about geek news, entertainment headlines, the size of Liam Neeson’s penis and much much more.

Honourable mentions go to:

Art of Wrestling with Colt Cabana

Talk is Jericho with Chris Jericho

Kermode and Mayo’s film review

Kevin Pollak’s chat show

Hope you check this out and bring as much lift relief as it does to my life.

Thanks for reading and take care.

A word (or a few) on Inspiration

Inspiration. Sometimes it is easy come, other times it can awhile before a source hits us.

I had been lacking in inspiration for awhile and then all of a sudden something hit me. An idea of sorts. Out of nowhere. Why do I think inspiring thoughts come in strange moments? Because you let your mind free from the struggle of the cause and allow it to let it time to breathe. So in this post are my six top things to do to free my mind.

1/ Lose my thought in a film or book.

2/ Going for a walk or for a drive.

3/ Working out

4/ Day to day chores (Washing up/cleaning)

5/ Immersing myself in to in-depth conversations and laughs.

6/ Podcasts and listening to music

Hope this helps to make you think and give you an insight in to what inspires.

Lonely Day – System Of A Down

Good morning all, I hope all is well.

Today I have decided to post the lyrics to one of my favourite SOAD songs. This is where my head is currently at with my writing and sums up a potential aspect of my story.

If you get chance, check out the video as it adds another element to the lyrics.

Hope you enjoy.

Lonely Day

Such a lonely day
And it’s mine
The most loneliest day of my life
Such a lonely day
Should be banned
It’s a day that I can’t stand

The most loneliest day of my life
The most loneliest day of my life
Such a lonely day
Shouldn’t exist
It’s a day that I’ll never miss
Such a lonely day
And it’s mine
The most loneliest day of my life

And if you go, I wanna go with you
And if you die, I wanna die with you
Take your hand and walk away

The most loneliest day of my life
The most loneliest day of my life
The most loneliest day of my life

Such a lonely day
And it’s mine
It’s a day that I’m glad I survived

Masked Heroes – A Haiku Story

Good evening folks,

After what has felt like forever I am back to doing something I enjoy, writing Haikus and posting on this blog.

The last couple of months in my household has been pretty shitty. Car accidents, colds, flu, sickness bugs, and a crazed cat that attacks me, and only me, on the stairs. No one else. Just me. To add insult to injury, Ruby climbs over me to get to the more comfortable and warmer side of bed, where the other human obviously gives better cuddles.

Anyway, enough of the ranting. If you follow me on Twitter, I tweet way too much about my cat as it is. I am here to give you an inside scoop to my latest writing adventure. It’s a few Haikus into one with a longer ending than you would find in a traditional Haiku. Well, if you build walls, there are people that knock them down. Sometimes, that is okay.

So here it is, a little teaser. I hope you all enjoy it and fingers crossed there will be more blog posts to come in the very near future. Have a great morning/day/evening.

MASKED HEROES

The black cape will burn,
And with flames it will engulf,
Ashes will remain.

In their victory,
Men and women will rejoice,
The children will cry.

In a town beneath,
Left battered, beaten and scarred,
The bodies shall fall.

Rise, the community of Bedlam. The era of the Masked Heroes are behind us. For the end is nigh.
